How we met…
It was April 13, 2017. W.E.A.V.E. was hosting their annual event: Sacramento’s Most Eligible Bachelors and Bachelorettes. Jason was there because he was nominated as one of the most eligible bachelors. (No, I didn’t bid on him – Haha!) I was there to support a friend who was also nominated, and I just so happened to be an eligible bachelorette myself. … Technically we didn’t meet until the event was over. My friends and I wanted to go somewhere to hang out for a little longer. Jason had met the friend I was there to support, so he joined us as we all went to a nearby bar to hang out. This place we went, Coin Op, has one of my favorite basketball arcade games. In my little black dress and red high heels, I asked if anyone wanted to play with me. Jason, looking good in his suit, said yes, thinking that this would probably be fun (or funny) to watch. Little did he know that basketball was kind of my thing, and I would totally smoke him! He was impressed! I’d say it was a “slam dunk” … and … The rest is history! Our proposal story…
It was Christmas morning December 25, 2018. We have a family tradition of opening presents at my mom’s house. Everyone was there my mom, my step-dad, my brother, sister and her fiancé. Jason had even figured out a way to get my Dad and step mom there to join us for gifts. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for all of my parents to be together for holidays and celebrations, so I didn’t think anything of it. (Side note: He also got his parents on his phone using FaceTime so they could listen in on it too.) We had finished opening all of the gifts that morning, when Jason said there was one more thing, a large box wrapped and leaning up against the wall. It didn’t have a name on it. It was for me. So, I started opening it, and he came over to help lift it out of the box. We set it on a chair. It was a framed world map that you scratch off a country when you travel to it. We love to travel, so he explained that this map would be a way for us to document all of the places that we will go to explore and experience together. He then said, “There is one thing though. We have to do this as a family.” As he said this he turned and pulled the ring out of the corner of the framed picture where he had hidden it, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I said “YES!” of course. It was perfect! Family is extremely important and special to both of us, so for him to make them all a part of this special moment meant the world to me.Why we chose our venue…
We got engaged in December and decided in February that we wanted to get married soon for a variety of reasons. At the time with that short of a window, there were not many venues that had much for availability. The venue we chose was the backyard of friends of my parents. It was truly the best gift they could have ever offered. (Funny thing, they had actually offered it somewhat jokingly back when we first started dating. They must have known something was going to go right!) The best part about this venue was that it was available for any of the dates that we had been considering! On top of that, it suited us better than any of the venues that we had looked at. It provided us the most beautiful intimate space to create our perfect wedding.
Favorite part of our wedding…
The whole thing! (That’s probably said by everyone.) I know there is no such thing as perfection, but if I could have had a perfect wedding day this was it. It was perfect to me and to Jason! There was nothing we would change about any of it. We have talked about it over and over again. We enjoyed everything about it! Having all of our friends and family there to celebrate and share the day with us was priceless.
