Here’s their love story…
“Clay and I met in 2011 through some mutual friends. From day one, we had a pretty close relationship. We would stay up late at night talking about random things or even watching T.V. About a year and a half after I moved to Lincoln, NE is when I knew there was something special there. It did take a little longer for Clay to admit there was something between us as well. But that’s an entirely different story. 🙂
Our first date was at Vincenzo’s, it’s a tasty Italian Restaurant. He dressed nice and bought a bottle of wine for us to share. At the time, we didn’t really know much about wine but he ended up selecting one that was quite tasty. We finished up the night at our regular hangout, Randy’s Grill & Chill for some karaoke. Randy’s is also the place where we got our nickname, Claychel.
We were dating for a couple of years before he had the courage to introduce me to his family. I knew that his family drank gin & tonics, so when I went to meet them, I made sure I brought in a handle of Seagram’s Gin. It was a little overwhelming meeting everyone, but I survived and had a great time. I love how big, and loud, and loving and funny his family is. They welcomed me with opened arms and I truly believe they like me more than him. 😛 just playing.
It was time for Clay to meet my family, so December 2017, we went to California for Christmas. Clay realized that my family was also big, and loud, and loving, and funny as well. As soon as he met them, he knew that our families had to meet. My family loves Clay and it’s hard not to see why they wouldn’t.We were so excited for the big day. When it came closer, we just wanted to be married and enjoy life. We chose our venue, Granite Bay Golf Club because the ladies were so welcoming. It was close to my (Rachel’s) parent’s home and it was beautiful. Clay and I really wanted to focus on a place where we could have both the ceremony and the reception. We did not want our guest to travel too far. The venue was also very accommodating to the family-style dinner that we wanted. Clay and I can easily get off track from time to time and we have friends and family that are full of shenanigans, so they helped us stay on track. We choose Dee & Kris because of the photos that we saw online. They were also recommended by our venue. We fell in love with the way they were able to capture the night. “
As the years passed our conversations began to change from talking about random things and life to talking about OUR FUTURE together. We went to a couple of places to look at ring styles so Clay would have a good idea of what I was looking for in a ring. I told him that I wanted something simple yet EXTRA sparkly and boy did he deliver.
Clay is not the best at keeping secrets, every once in awhile he can throw a good surprise for me. The day he proposed I was supposed to be off work but I had to go into work for a few hours which ruined his plans. Clay wanted me at his work no later than 10:30 AM. He was adamant that he needed me there. So before I left work I made sure I put makeup on just in case this was THE DAY. I went into his work, walked into the nursery, and the first thing I saw was all of his nursery kids holding single red roses. There was no Clay insight. At this moment I knew this was THE DAY. Kids rushed around me to hand me their roses, emotions were flowing through me and I had tears of joy rolling down my face. After all the kids gave me their roses, they led me to the back room where Clay was waiting for me. He got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” and of course I said, “YES!” He was so nervous that he missed putting the ring on my finger the first couple of times. We told my parents immediately and my mom said, “It’s about time! Your permission was about to expire!” November 11, 2018 will be a day that I will never forget because it’s the beginning to a new chapter in our lives.
