A Little Bit About Freeport Bakery:

Marlene & Walter Goetzeler fell in love in San Diego in 1982, brought together by an interest in each other’s respective cultures. Walter grew up in a Bavarian bakery, and Marlene was looking for a German tutor… Inside Sacramento’s Cecily Hastings referred to their romance as a story that “might have been written for Hollywood,” the match was so perfect. The couple purchased Freeport Bakery after their official move to Sacramento in 1987. Now a Sacramento staple for nearly 33 years, Freeport Bakery expanded in 2016 with the Wedding Department office (next door to Dad’s Kitchen), in order to accommodate more business. From only seven employees in 1982 to nearly seventy in 2019, our family has grown as our status across Northern California has spread. We have a passion for cake and love, and nothing brings us more pleasure than helping a wedding couple bring their vision to life for their big day.

What desserts do you offer for weddings?

We offer tiered cakes, as well as a full dessert bar menu (with nearly anything your heart could desire from tarts and cookies, to cake pops and more), or a single tier ceremonial cutting cake with dessert options to serve your guests. We even offer croquembouche or a rice krispie wedding cake, for those who want to offer something unique and non-traditional!

Our Wedding Consultants love to get to know you and your wedding vision – we are here for you every step of the way and will guide you through the different flavor, design, and logistical options with excitement and ease. We can’t wait to find out all about your colors and aesthetic, to help you craft the perfect wedding cake and/or dessert bar customized to suit your wedding theme. Every couple is different, and your wedding day should be a representation of you and your love; whether you are looking for a traditional tiered cake or an assorted mini pie bar, if you prefer classic designs or you want to bring hints of your history into the design, we will take you through the process step by step.

What advice do you have for couples picking out and designing the perfect cake?

Take a little bit of time to chat with your significant other before coming in to visit us, to have an idea of the different cake styles and designs you both like or dislike. This will help us guide you through the design process; once you come in, we can help you put together all of the pieces with a sketch, and make a design that is truly unique – just like your wedding day!
